About TRACS

TRACS is University Research Administration's (URA's) database system for tracking proposals submitted by University of Chicago faculty to federal and non-federal agencies, and awards made in respose to those proposals. TRACS replaced on older, mainframe system called Grants, on Monday, December 4, 2000.

Accessing TRACS

Access to TRACS is granted by URA, generally to administrators who deal with grants and contracts in academic departments and divisions, and in central administration. We usually ask for a letter or email from the department chair or executive administrator confirming that the applicant is authorized to view the relevant information. Before we can give you access, you will need a CNetID from Networking Services and Information Technology (NSIT). You can claim your CNetID at http://cnet.uchicago.edu/. To request access to TRACS, contact David Thomas at dthomas@uchicago.edu.

Codes

In creating TRACS as a successor to Grants we have tried to minimize the number of places where obscure codes appear on screen. Although we haven't always been able to do this, we hope that we will be able to improve TRACS in the coming months. In the meantime, here are some of the codes that you may come across in using TRACS.
