NIH Grants.gov Basic Necessities — A Survival Guide
This is a quick summary of the basic information and tools needed to get started on an NIH Grants.gov submission. More detailed information is available on the URA website: http://researchadmin.uchicago.edu/proposals/gg.shtml
The Bare Necessities:
- PRINT… these out as quick references
- URA Quick Fact Sheet
- Sample SF 424 Forms (PDF)
- FOA (RFA, NOT, or PA) Guidelines (Read them carefully)
- BOOKMARK… these guidelines as references
- USE… this to develop your budget (It does all the calculations for you)
REQUIRED forms for internal grant processing:
- Proposal Transmittal Form (PTF) – COMPLETE this form and have the PI and Chair (as needed) sign it.
- NIH Certification Form (PDF) – PRINT out and have anyone with the role of PI sign this form (only for NIH Grants)
ALL Grants.gov grant applications are reviewed and submitted by staff in URA. After completing the PTF, NIH Certification Statement (if needed), and filling in the Grants.gov Adobe forms, please submit to URA:
- Completed PTF
- Completed NIH Certification Statement
- Copy of Budget (or you can email it to the URA Grant Manager if you know who it is)
- Print out of the Adobe forms and attachments
- Copy of the RFA instructions
Once reviewed by URA, you will receive comments via e-mail with further instructions. Please contact URA if you have not received this e-mail after three days.
