Welcome Argonne Scientists and Staff
Reflecting the mutually beneficial nature of research collaborations between Argonne and the University of Chicago, policies and procedures to facilitate and encourage such cooperative efforts have been developed.
On October 1, 2006, the University of Chicago commenced managing and operating Argonne National Laboratory through UChicago Argonne, LLC, an entity that is solely owned and controlled by the University of Chicago. As was the case prior to October 1, 2006, the University of Chicago (through its office of research administration located on the University of Chicago campus) will continue to be the applicant and awardee on all grant applications submitted to the NIH for research to be performed at Argonne National Laboratory. Argonne administrators will work with departmental/unit administrators at the University (when appropriate) or directly with URA (when there is no University collaboration) to prepare proposals for endorsement and submission. Proposals to other federal agencies also pass through URA when University/Argonne collaborations are proposed.
Proposals are sent to University Research Administration (URA) for comprehensive review and University endorsement prior to submission to the potential sponsor. URA is also the office to formally negotiate and accept awards for the University on behalf of individual principal investigators (see University policy on authorized signature). Susan Boone is Interim Director of URA. The list of URA staff gives contact information and also indicates their responsibilities by sponsor and/or unit.
For applications under Joint Appointments, please refer to the proposal process through University units. The University and Argonne have developed various mechanisms to formalize our relationship under particular awards to ensure appropriate management of sponsor funds.
