Welcome New Research Administrators
Proposals are sent to University Research Administration (URA) for comprehensive review and for University endorsement prior to submission to the potential sponsor. URA is also the office to formally negotiate and accept awards for the University on behalf of individual principal investigators (see University policy on authorized signature). Carol Zuiches is Associate Vice President for Research Administration and Director of URA. The list of URA staff gives contact information and also indicates their responsibilities by sponsor and/or unit.
KNOW THE PROCESS: In general, proposals originate with a faculty member (Principal Investigator) assisted by local administrative support. Depending on where you are in the University, proposals will pass through a particular sequence of reviews and sign-off. Learn the practices of review and sign-off for your department/area. Your supervisor should be able to help you with this.
For guidance in the proposal process, by division:
- BSD — Office of Research Services (ORS)
- SSD — SSD Local Business Center (SSD LBC)
- PSD — PSD Local Business Center (PSD LBC)
URA staff are happy to help if you need clarification or assistance with process questions.
Note under Sponsored Programs Education & Training (below) that we offer classes in the fundamentals of pre-award and post-award administration twice annually. Please be sure to register for these basic classes. Continuing education classes/workshops for research administrators are regularly offered.
